Primitive Reflex Integration

Some children struggle with coordination, reading, emotional regulation, or focus and nobody can explain why. Retained primitive reflexes are often the missing piece. This therapy is rare in the UK, and it can be life-changing.

Andrew Cheers, CBT therapist and primitive reflex integration specialist

I'm Andrew Cheers

Before I opened this clinic, I spent years at the Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Development Centre in Chester, working with children and adults whose lives had been turned sideways by neurological conditions. Before that, I served in the Royal Air Force.

These experiences shaped everything about how I work: direct, respectful, no messing about.

I hold a BSc in Psychology, a Diploma in CBT, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Science. Over 13 years, I've sat across from thousands of people in their worst moments and helped them get better. That's what I do.

If you're looking for someone who'll be straight with you and give you practical tools that actually work, you've found the right place.

What clients say

"I'd been on the NHS waiting list for eight months when I found Andrew. Within six sessions, the anxiety that had been running my life for years was something I could actually manage. He doesn't just talk at you. He gives you tools that work."

Sarah T.

CBT for anxiety, 2024

"My son was struggling at school. Teachers said he couldn't concentrate, couldn't sit still. We'd been through CAMHS, occupational therapy, everything. Andrew identified retained reflexes that nobody else had even checked for. Three months in, his teacher asked what had changed. Everything."

James R.

Primitive reflex therapy, parent, 2024

"As a veteran, I didn't think therapy was for me. Talking about feelings? Not my thing. But Andrew gets it. He served too. There's no 'and how does that make you feel?' rubbish. It's structured, practical, and it works. I wish I'd done it years ago."

Common questions

How much does CBT therapy cost?
CBT sessions are £60 for 50-60 minutes. I offer concessions for military veterans, serving personnel, and blue light workers. There are no hidden fees, no assessment charges, and the free phone consultation is exactly that: free.
Do I need a referral to see a private therapist?
No. You don't need a GP referral, a diagnosis, or anyone's permission. You can contact me directly and we'll have a free phone consultation to see whether I'm the right fit for what you're dealing with.
What is primitive reflex integration therapy?
Primitive reflexes are automatic movements that babies are born with. They're supposed to disappear in the first year of life as the brain matures. When they don't, they can cause problems with coordination, reading, focus, emotional regulation, and behaviour. Primitive reflex integration therapy uses specific movement exercises to help the brain complete the process it didn't finish. It's non-invasive, evidence-informed, and I'm one of very few practitioners offering it in the UK.
How many CBT sessions will I need?
It depends on what you're working through. Straightforward anxiety or mild depression might take 6-8 sessions. More complex issues like PTSD, personality disorders, or eating disorders typically need 12-20 sessions. I'll give you an honest estimate after our first session. I don't keep people in therapy longer than they need to be.
Do you offer therapy for children?
I offer primitive reflex integration therapy for children, which addresses coordination, focus, reading difficulties, and emotional regulation through movement-based exercises. For CBT specifically, I work with adults aged 18 and over. If your child needs CBT, I can point you in the right direction.
